Yesterday was the photoshoot for my new Spring/Summer collection and we were trying to channel some tropical summer sun on a grey February afternoon. The fabulous team from my last Autumn/Winter shoot were back together including our gorgeous model Ashleigh and I think the results are going to bring some well needed sun into our lives. Thankyou to the most wonderful team as always you absolutely rocked the shoots socks off.

Glasgow Wedding Collective - Wedding Fayre 15th January

Towards the end of last year I became a member of the Glasgow Wedding Collective. The name may be a little deceptive as it has wedding suppliers from all over Scotland. Next weekend sees its 2nd official outing with a vintage style wedding fayre. There will be a variety of fabulous suppliers from vintage inspired photgraphers, letterpress stationery, yummy cakes and a whole load more. There will be plenty to inspire all you brides to be with all the details of your big day.

I am currently holed up in the studio creating 2 new bridal styles to debut at the fayre. I have a sneaky peek of the beautiful beaded lace I am using in one of the dresses for you below.

So for all you newly engaged folks out there that are looking for some imspiration this is the perfect opportunity to get you started. The wedding fayre is on at the Hillhead Bookclub, 17 Vinicombe St (just off Byres Road), Glasgow and is on from 11am-4pm. Hopefully see you there.

Get your own Aardvark Manifesto

This is going to be my manifesto for 2012 in both my professional and personal life this year. 2011 was a great year and I think this year has the potential to be even better. I have lots of collaborations planned and am looking forward to building up the bridal collection with 2 new designs in the pipeline already. I will be showing at my first wedding fayre in a couple of weeks. I am already planning new shoots and hopefully a few new developments as well. I have the challenge of creating my sisters dress for her wedding in the summer as well as the excitement of the wedding. There will be a new Rowanjoy collection coming up in the next couple of months and a whole lot more beyond that.

All the fun of the fair

The next couple of weeks are proving to be a busy time here at Rowanjoy in the run up to Christmas. I am going to be doing a few markets in the first couple of weeks of December and also shall be sending stock to my online stockist Swelle Boutique who is off to The Clothes Show Live in Birmingham. The Clothes Show Live is on at Birmingham NEC from 2nd-7th December so if you are in the area go along and say hello to Denise from Swelle and see all the other fashion action that is going on.

First up for me is a double funk fair market weekend in Edinburgh (Sat 3rd December) and Dundee (Sun 4th December) I have done funk fair for the last few years and its always a great day with a great variety and mix of vintage and handmade goodies to be rummaged through and lusted after. I have always ended up treating myself to something off one of the other stalls after a hard day selling. I have decided to make friday I'm in love... (yes I know very imaginative) a regular post and each friday I'm going to write about (imaginatively) something I love. It will be a mixture of my inspirations, people whose work I admire, films, music and maybe the odd random one in there as well.

This week I am bringing you an artist/illustrator whose work I think is a nice continuation from my post about Tim Walker from last week - Daniel Egneus. I came across his work thanks to my friend Lucy, who is herself a wonderful illustrator, and fell in love as soon I saw it. His work, like Tim Walker's, has a dream-like quality to it with scenes filled with girls dressed in animals and rooms with creatures and pattern covering the page. There were endless images I wanted to post up here but had to limit myself to just a few but if you want to see more then head to his website here. Its definitely worth taking a little while out of your day to immerse yourself in his wonderful worlds.

Friday I'm in love.... Tim Walker and Mongolia

I had the joy of receiving my new copy of British Vogue through the post on Tuesday and did my usual flicking through to the photoshoots first. To my delight the first shoot I spotted was by my favourite photographer (apart from Paul) Tim Walker. I have loved his work since I saw his shoot with Lily Cole in India and just fell in love with the dreamy wonderlands he creates in his work.

Paul and I have a habit of getting into conversations about our love of Tim Walkers work and which of his shoots is our favourite. He is definitely an inspiration when it comes to planning and creating our ideas for my shoots and are normally the images I show to Paul when I am saying "I want it to look like this!" Unfortunately our budget isnt quite on the same level but even if we manage to create something a tiny bit as magical as he does, I am happy.

The new shoot in Decembers Vogue is set in Mongolia therefore combining 2 of the things I love. I visited Mongolia in 2008 and completely fell in love with the country - it has the most amazing scenery, landscapes and skyscapes. If you have ever thought about doing the trans-mongolian rail then dont even hesitate to do it, it is one of the most wonderful trips you could do - Russia, Mongolia and finishing in China you experience such a variety of cultures, foods and architecture. It was incredibly inspiring for me and I definitely over indulged in the local fabric shops which had such a huge selection of beautiful embroidered brocades I had no idea where to begin. Word of warning though if you go to mongolia and are offered fermented Yaks milk politely decline, its the most vile thing I have ever tasted (avoid the cheese as well).

So all this rambling brings me to the combination of the 2 things that I love the current shoot in British Vogue. This is a selection of some of my favourite images from the shoot. I hope you love them as much as I do.

Cheap Frills

There is most definitely something frilly going on at Rowanjoy at the moment. I have been hand sewing some big frilly silk flowers the last few days, I knew all those scraps I was keeping would come in handy one day. I am not going to say what the flowers are for yet (partly because I havent decided) but all shall be revealed as soon as I have and the frills are free.

Rowanjoy A/W 2011 sneak peeks

So I have been a bit lax on the blogging front the last month or so, wedding season was well and truly upon me. It is starting to quieten down with Bridal for the moment which has given me a chance to get going on my new autumn winter collection. So here for you are a few small close ups of some of the details in the new range.

As you can see there is plenty of sparkles and lace, Rowanjoy has gone glam for Autumn/Winter. I have a few final bits and pieces to finish before my photoshoot on Sunday but with some extreme sewing over the next couple of days it will be ready. I am really looking forward to this shoot we have got a gorgeous model, a great location and I have my eye on some fabulous Louboutins to complete the looks (the model also happens to have the same shoe size as me cue complete shoe lust on my part)

I will be back on form with the blogging over the next few weeks with new Rowanjoy Bridal dresses, bespoke bridal from the last couple of months and of course the new shoot and collection.

Oh Miu Miu.

When I first saw the Miu Miu A/W show streamed live in February my heart literally skipped a beat. The whole collection is gorgeous but it was the shoes and bags that really did it for me. The shoes - sparkly ankle boots with a chunky heel and a confection of candy coloured suedes. The bags - all over sized and squidgy clutches with giant purse clasps.

Perfection.

I am determined to have a pair of those sparkly beauties in my life, I have never wanted a pair of shoes so much. So I am now off to befriend Hailee Steinfeld, Miuccia Prada or rob a bank (or if any kind soul wants to buy them for me I wont protest much at all)

Pippa Middleton in Rowanjoy

There is much excitement with Rowanjoy today as completely out of the blue one of my dresses has appeared across the national and even some world press. I was walking home from doing a bit of extra work on today when I spotted a familiar dress on the cover of the Scotsman newspaper. It was a dress by one of the other Godiva Boutique designers from 7 years ago when we had shown a collection for the Edinburgh University Charity Fashion show and was being modelled by a certain Miss Pippa Middleton. After buying the Scotsman and making an excited call to Fleur the owner of Godiva boutique I realised there was actually a photo of one of my dresses on page 3 as well. Not only is the picture of my dress in the Scotsman it has also been used in The Sun, The Daily Record, The Daily Mirror and The Daily Mail and their online counterparts and online for Us magazine - yes I am tres tres excited.

Unfortunately I dont have a credit for making the dress but I am trying to rectify that as we speak. The dress along with 2 other outfits were the first I had shown on the catwalk since my graduation from Edinburgh College of Art the year before and from what I remember was a great show to take part in with John Snow as the compere (wearing one of his trademark ties) I clearly remember discussing the idea of the butterflies in the hair with Fleur and think they may still be hiding down in the Godiva Basement. I think we shall be hunting those out on Monday!

Short and Sweet - Best scottish weddings magazine.

I Excitedly made my way to the newsagent last night to pick up "The Best Scottish Weddings" magazine because Rowanjoy bridal has had its first feature in the press. Betty is featured in its short and sweet photoshoot along with other 1950's inspired gowns and even gets in the magazine twice by sneakily appearing on the contents page. Styled with pink colour pop accessories and shot on location with some fabulous vintage signs and vehicles the flirty vibe of the dress really comes across. The rest of the magazine is filled with ideas and inspiration for your big day and those lovely ladies from Strumpet also have one of their pieces featured in a gorgeous Biba inspired photoshoot.

Magpie Market, some new treats.

This Sunday I will be setting up stall for the first time at Magpie Market in the hub on the Royal Mile. I have been busy the last couple of days screen printing a summer version of the scarves that were so popular at Christmas. Now made in georgette and available in Black with purple or mint print or Ivory with rose pink print, these scarves have an added extra foil print at both ends.

I will also have my printed tees, some printed leather jewellery, bow belts and some previous season stock which will be at bargain prices.

There will be over 30 stalls with a variety of fabulous products from various independent designers. Not only that there will be some fab tunes from The Horndog Brass Band who I saw play on Hogmanay and are amazing. There will be a pop up cafe with tea and cakes, a tombola with lots of fantastic prizes from local businesses and for those of you that get there early a good bag full of treats.

It is on from 11-4pm at The Hub and is free, so come along, say hello and support local and independent designers and makers.

Coming up with Rowanjoy...

Things have been rather busy over the last few weeks with various projects I have been juggling and I thought it was time for an update. So the first one and the biggie is the launch of my new range - Rowanjoy Bridal.

In my previous post, I gave a little sneak peek of the photoshoot I did a couple of weeks ago and here is the first image from that shoot. I'm not going to say too much about it until I have all the photos and a fabulous new website up and running (should be next couple of weeks) but hopefully this will whet your appetite.

I am also going to be doing a couple of markets in the next couple of weeks. First up I will be sharing a stall with the fabulous Fleur from Godiva Boutique at the Grassmarket festival on the 30th April. There will be a variety of stalls and also avalanche and dancebase have organised bands to play and dancers to dance.

Fingers crossed this lovely weather holds as it looks like it will be a great event over the whole weekend.

The second market I am doing is Magpie market which has a new location in The Hub on the Royal Mile.

This is the first time I have done it so am looking forward to meeting everyone involved and hopefully not spending too much on other peoples stalls. I will be selling a mixture of printed scarves, printed leather jewellery, belts, printed tees and sweatshirts and may have a few previous season pieces selling for a snip of their original prices.

Over the next few weeks I will keep you updated with all these goings on and hopefully see a few of you at some of the markets.

Beatriz Milhazes - A carnival in a painting

Recently I was going through some folders of research I had done when I was at college. Whilst rifling through the images I had collated I found some pages full of paintings made up from the most fabulous colours, pattern and prints. I had loved this artist whilst I was at college but in the 8 years since then her name had completely escaped my brain and I had stupidly not written it down anywhere. I resigned myself to the fact I was unlikely to ever remember what her name was. Then by complete luck whilst flicking through the current Vogue to my surprise I spotted one of her paintings in an article about interior design. I was very pleased that I once again would be able to find more and more of her work.

As you can see her work is a riot of colour and pattern, each work is a visual treat for the eye. Milhazes is brazilian and her paintings feel like there is in fact a carnival going on in each one. If I could find fabrics with prints like these in them I would be a very happy designer.

London Fashion Week - My top 10 looks

So its that time of year again when I get far too distracted by vogue.com looking at all the shows from the various fashion weeks. This year distraction has been at a premium with the people I follow on twitter constantly updating me with this seasons goings on.

London fashion week has just come to a close and call me patriotic but its usually my favourite, followed a very close second by Paris. I normally find the Autumn/Winter shows a bit, well, dull. Give me spring/summer with its colour and prettiness and generally the aesthetic that lies close to my heart any day. It seems though this Autumn/Winter may be the exception with print and colour galore.

So here are my 10 looks that i loved from London fashion week.

10 - Burberry. I always love what Christopher Bailey does at burberry especially how he manages to spin so many ideas and designs from the classic trench. This collection was pretty coat/jacket-centric but there were some beauties in there. This was my favourite - I love the over exagerrated sleeves and tulip shape of the coat itself, all it needs is a vintage vespa to accesorise.

9 - Basso and Brooke. I have loved this label since they won the fashion fringe competition a few years ago with a collection full of the most amazing digital prints. This collection was no exception and with the shapes of the garments simplified the prints really stood out. The colour palette in this dress has such a range but works perfectly. Im also rather fond of them as Mr Brooke follows me on twitter.

8 - David Koma. I hadnt been a fan of David Koma before I saw this collection. I was one of the many people who sniggered away when Cheryl Cole wore the bin lid (as i think it was dubbed) dress on the xfactor. However, I loved this collection. You cant beat a polka dot and I think the way he used the different textures and flashes of colour in his use of them was really clever. My love for pompoms at the moment and his use of lovely furry ones probably helped my love for this collection as well.

7 - Holly Fulton. There were several looks from Holly's collection that I was torn between choosing as my favourite. This one won out in the end for its beautiful print and if I ever had a fancy ball to go to it would be my top choice. I am maybe a bit biased about Holly Fulton as she was my fashion tutor a long time ago when I was in first year at college and she was doing her post grad but I have loved all her collections. I love her art deco inspired prints and the woman she imagines when she designs - this season coco chanel on a trip to scotland to visit her lover.

6 - Kinder Aggugini - I have to say I'm not overly familiar with this label at all, i think this may have been the first time I have seen one of his collections. All the pieces in it were beautiful and this swing coat with cutouts was the one that stood out to me. I think it is the simplicity of the cut added with the hint of seeing what is underneath that works beautifully.

5 - Erdem. Erdem is undoubtedly one of my favourite designers, his use of print, lace, colour and embroidery so beautifully is what I aspire to. This collection had a much more grown up feel to it and I didnt love it as instantly as I normally do (his spring/summer collection made me want to go and take out a huge loan and buy it all straight away) but I loved this dress the cut, colour and print.

4 - Jonathon Saunders. I loved this collection. I think Jonathon Saunders has such an amazing way with print and colourand this collection seemed to bring it all together in the most beautiful way. Im a big fan of odd colour combinations and this outfit really stood out to me with the orange and blue mix. I also think he had my favourite shoes of fashion week.

3 - Temperley London. Alice Temperley is always one of those designers that I know I will love pretty much whatever she does. This dress is just one of the prettiest I saw in all of fashion week. It gives me thoughts of winter wonderlands and fairytales, i think it is the most perfect winter dress.

2 - Louise Gray. My patriotism continues with a 3rd scottish designer. I've always found Louise Grays collections a bit bonkers, but bonkers in a good way. This collection had an immense amount of colour, print and texture going on and this coat was probably one of the simplest outfits. I want it. Its mohair, its got a big collar, its got big gold spots what is not to want.

1 - Mary Katrantzou. This was my ultimate favourite collection of the whole of London fashion week. Following on from her last collection of lampshade skirts and vista scenes printed on dresses this collection was a more wearable follow on. Her use of prints is amazing, there is so much going on but none of it jars to the eye. I never thought I would ever want to wear dress that looked like a vase but thanks to Mary Katrantzou I now do.

Yesterday a couple of weeks of much stitching, sewing and stressing came together in the photoshoot for my Spring/Summer collection. There had been a few nightmares a long the way, the original location falling through, my sewing machine deciding to stop working but thankfully everything fell into place at the last minute.

My new collection had been inspired by the film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and in true Rowanjoy style is full of florals, lace and colour. I wanted to find somewhere that reflected the sets in the film for the shoot. The perfect location eluded me until worryingly close to the date of the shoot (my original location fell through a week before) but a very fortuitous google search found me a more perfect loacation that i think i could have imagined.

Spot the giant tulle pompom (and a couple of baby ones) that sneaked their way in.

A Georgian Residence is a bed and breakfast in the West End of Edinburgh and is 5 storeys of Grand Rooms and amazing antiques and ornaments. The feel of the place was perfect and when we found a little room hidden away at the top of the house with the most perfect pink tiled fireplace I knew we had the location. Thanks to the kindness and hospitality of Florence who owns the House and if anyone is planning a trip to Edinburgh and wants to stay in the most fantastic setting I would say this is your place.

Once again I was working with the fabulous team of Paul Marr Photographer and Image maker extraordinaire, Roy Rogers hair stylist and creater of the most fantastic up-dos I have seen and Fiona Henderson the most fabulous make up artist. Our model was the lovely Claire lawson from the look agency who was the perfect doll in our Grand Dolls house. Shoes came courtesy of Pam Jenkins where I chose my favourite pair of Jimmy Choos which sadly at a size 6 were just too big for my little trotters.

I hopefully should have the actual images from Paul in the next couple of weeks and as soon as I do I will get them up here to show them off.

Last week whilst designing my new collection, I had an idea for the photoshoot. I decided I wanted to have tulle pompoms. Not just any tulle pompoms - giant ones. I'm not entirely sure where this thought came from, I'm not planning on using tulle in my collection, must have just been from the strange happenings in my brain. Although after watching my big fat gypsy wedding last night i wonder if i was subliminally influenced by seeing all those giant dresses, one had 500 metres of tulle in it and I thought making a dress with 10 metres of fabric in it was a nightmare. I dont think I could compete with that level of giant tulle constructions.

Back to the pompom. So this is what I have so far - more a giant tulle doughnut than pompom but hopefully with one more layer added, a beautiful tulle pompom will emerge like a butterfly from its cocoon. It has already taken me several metres of tulle and over an hour to get to this point so i think this may be the only giant pompom I will attempt.

Im hoping my pompom turns out as lovely and perfectly formed as these.

I live in hope anyway.

Looking to bring some glamour back to daily life they have both a ready to wear line and will also create bespoke pieces. ... or the umbrellas of cherbourg to give it its english title. I have decided to use this film as one of my inspirations for my new S/S 2011 collection which i am in the process of designing right now. I had never heard of it until my boyfriend (big film buff) told me about it and was surprised I had never seen it, it being a musical and me having a bit of an obsession with musicals. It is unusual for a musical as every word is sung unlike most where songs are broken up with dialogue. I loved it the first time I saw it - the combination of the the story of lost love, the songs and the beautiful visuals. The film is filled with colour and pattern as well as the sweet fashions that Catherine Deneuve wears. These are the elements I shall be taking from the film to put in my collection and you never know there may be the odd umbrella sneaked in somewhere.

Ive gone all continental on this the 5th day of the new year. So its the day for taking down the tree, decorations and all the paraphernalia of the festive period and for making grand plans for the new year. I have big plans for Rowanjoy which shall be revealed along the way in these coming months with collaborations and hard work galore.

I am also making new years resolutions for myself including the usual fitter and healthier which normally fails by mid feb. This year i am determined it will last. I also plan to be more organised, productive and generally better. I have been promised a pug if I pass my driving test this year so that is high on the list of priorities. I think the prospect of turning the big 3-0 this year has made me determined to make this a good and prosperous year.

So lets make it happen and tomorrow will indeed be a great day.

Funk Fair

Tomorrow (11th December) I shall be heaving my wares down to Cafe Camino At St Marys (beside the bottom door of John Lewis) where the annual Christmas Funk Fair has moved to. There will be a variety of fabulous stalls including Godiva, Iconic in the Grassmarket, Totty Rocks and Trash furnishings. This year there is a licensed bar and with only a £1 entry there really is no excuse not to come along and browse all the stalls, have a cheeky glass of vino ( I will be) and buy some fabulous and unique presents for loved ones and yourself. Ive put some pics up of some of the stock I will be taking down along with a sample sale of old pieces which will start from £15.

Sunday just passed (7th November) saw Rowanjoy show for the first time at a show in Wales at the Fashion Showcase event. I was asked to take part by Rachel Holland of www.laluminata.co.uk who had been asked to organise the eco section of the show. This was the first time there had been an Eco section so it was a privilege to be asked to take part in the inaugural event along with the label from somewhere. Now I can definitely justify my label as Eco - using vintage and reworked fabrics, trying to find my connection with the Welsh part of the showcase was maybe slightly harder - eh my cousin lives in Cardiff. Details, details, it was still a pleasure to take part in show so well organised as this one. So above are some images of the collection I showed which will be available in Godiva Boutique as soon as it gets back from its trip to Wales.

Living in La la land

Ah la la Land, we've all been there, it's that wonderful magical place just over the hill and beyond the lake of dreams. Now, though, it no longer exists just in fantasy it is now a fabulous boutique in the West end of Glasgow. Opened only a month ago by Sarah Graham in De Courcy's Arcade just behind Byres Road it is a little treasure chest of gorgeous things and now is the Glasgow stockist of Rowanjoy. Sarah is also the force behind the fashion magazine Coveted which aims to promote the Scottish fashion industry, never a bad thing in my eyes.

The boutique is a treasure trove of all things fashion, with a mixture of accessories, clothes, jewellery and magazines to choose from. I have put some pics up of a few of the pieces that are now on sale in the shop as well as these my printed tshirts and winter tweed capes are all in stock. The 3rd and most exciting for me was a mention on the Guardian websites fashion statement in the life and style section. I subscribe to the fashion statement column and get it emailed to me every week so you can imagine my surprise this week when scrolling through the articles in it, near the bottom I spotted a familiar photo - one from my spring/summer collection shoot. In the shopping news they had decided to feature the new Swelle boutique and to my joy had used one of my images and mentioned my label. Yes folks you can now buy Rowanjoy online, no its not the online shop I have been telling everyone I am going to set up, It is what my online shop will aspire to be. Swelle boutique www.swelleboutique.com has been set up by Denise Grayson who has the wonderful blog www.theswellelife.com which talks about all the gorgeous things in life. This time last year she wrote an embarrassingly lovely post about Rowanjoy and we kept in touch ever since. When she told about setting Swelle Boutique and if I would be interested in being one of the designers she stocked I jumped at the chance. As it was the launch of the boutique I felt some special pieces were most definitely necessary so I created a 3 piece mini collection of the most romantic and pretty dresses I could manage. Turns out that they happen to rank in my top 15 pieces I have made and out of several hundred I think that is pretty good going.

The boutique also stocks a selection of other designers who share the same philosophy of creating beautiful one off or limited edition pieces that have that special quality about them. A fellow ECA graduate and alumni of the Godiva academy of misfits Lu Flux has some gorgeous pieces on sale. My favourite being the Plume skirt made from a gorgeous rainbow of vintage fabrics, scalloped and layered to create the skirt. The label Neue has some wonderfully pleated and tailored dresses which look like the perfect alternative day dress and also look beautifully made.

So go check it out and see the gorgeous offerings Denise has curated for you to spend those pennies burning a hole in your picket on. I also highly recommend a good read of Denise's blog especially if like me you love the pretty things in life - she seems to find them at every possible turn.

o these were my last minute addition to the stock I took down to London with me. After days waiting for them to be delivered and general harassing of the postman wondering where they were, my bag of vintage scarves got here. I made a very rushed trip down to the tessuti studio to get them printed. This time printing with an opaque version of the green colour on the tshirts and also a lovely pale pink which came up beautifully on the various scarfs. The result of each print varied enormously on each scarf depending on the base colour and print and the fabric each one was made from, some the print has come up really strongly others it has a much more fade effect. Look out for them in various shops and hopefully eventually online.

Alternative fashion week

For the last few weeks of my life I have been a continual one woman (plus a couple of fabulous helpers) production line. All this printing, sewing and decorating will all come to an end on Sunday when I heave my heavy bags onto the train and head down to London to do the market at alternative fashion week. Alternative fashion week has been running for several years now and is a chance for independent designers to show their work on the catwalk shows that run during the week and sell their work at the market. I will just be at the market this year, hopefully next year they will let my work loose on the catwalk, which runs from the 19th-23rd April from 11am-5pm at spitalfields market. So for any of you down London way that want to part with your hard earned cash, preferably on my stall, it would be lovely to see you.

Shooting the new..

I had my photoshoot for my new S/S 2010 collection yesterday and although I am now shattered I am also very excited as the shoot went super well. As usual I had the fabulous Paul Marr shooting the collection and the wonderful Roy Rogers doing the hair. We had a new addition to the team fiona to do the make-up and a grand job she did too. Our model for the day was a new face Patricia Taylor from Colours agency in Glasgow and she was the perfect girl for the collection. Here are some of my "backstage" shots from the day to give you an idea of what the final shots will be like, I for one cant wait to see them.

I got to go and do my first screen printing last week over at Albion Road studios. Since then I have been stiching and decorating the printed tees with vintage fabrics lace and some swarovski crystals I had lurking about. So here for you are the first 3 completed tees which will available in all the shops I sell through and also on my stall at the Alternative fashion week market at Spitalfields in April. I will also hopefully be setting up my own etsy store to sell through which they will be available on. The tees will be available just plain with the print or with added embellishment.

So finally I once again have a working camera and I am now determined to diligent and good with my blogging. My aim is to post at least once a week or if I have been super good and busy there may even be more. So today I thought I would bring a sneaky peek of one of the new elements to Rowanjoy and that is the new prints I am going to be adorning my designs with. To be extra cryptic and keep the prints a bit of a secret until they are on finished garments I have only taken detail shots of them to keep you guessing. They were inspired by art deco graphics and insects.

So I am still sans camera cable to enable me to get some new pics up and let everyone see a sneak peek of the new collection. I do, however, have a large back catalogue of photoshoots from previous years that are just hiding away on my hard drive and that I think should be set free for more people to see. The photos in this post are from a shoot I did nearly 4 years ago. It was for the fabulous Paul Marr's final show from his course at Telford college. The idea for the story was inspired by the Kar Wai Wong films In the Mood for love and 2046. Paul loved the lighting in the films and also the setting of the hotel room. My inspiration for the outfits for the shoot came from the idea of a reclusive movie star hiding away in her hotel but remaining glamourous throughout her seclusion. We shot at the Point Hotel in Edinburgh where the neon lighting in the rooms and corridor set the scene perfectly. Its still on of my favourite shoots I have done so far.

Absence makes the sewing machine go faster

So it has been a shocking amount of time since i last posted on here. I have no excuses, well apart from my camera battery dying and me refusing to pay £35 for a new battery so a serious lack of photographing of things to put up, actually that is my excuse and Im sticking to it. I now have an adopted camera, albeit with a missing usb cable that I am planning to replace asap, why dont boys put things in places that they remember??

So all I can do is give an idea of my plans for the year ahead and then follow up with some photographic evidence in the future time. Rowanjoy the label is going to have a bit of a shake up, with the main collection getting streamlined to a 6 outfit capsule collection which is going to be complemented with a new printed jersey range. All of this is well under way, I am currently making up my first samples of the main collection and working on my prints for the jersey range. I am very excited about getting both of these out for everyone to see and will get some pics up in the next few weeks.

Belts Bonanza

I have been a one woman belt production line the last few days, making elastic bow belts for the shop I sell through in London, Mnini. They are taking part in a Carnaby Street event with Grazia magazine and thought my belts would be a good seller on the day. The bows are made from a mixture of all the leftovers of fabrics from dresses I've made, so nothing goes to waste. Waist belts are always a fabulous option for putting over dresses, tops or cardis and these ones will definitely brighten up any outfit. Anyone in London should head over Carnaby Street way on the 12th November and have a wander round the shops there, think there is a bit of a discount on offer as well.

So I am finally getting round to finishing my Autumn/Winter collection after starting it over 2 months ago. It seems making wedding dresses and doing workshops have taken over the last couple of months of my life but now I am getting to the end of them and get to go back to the creative side. I am doing my photoshoot this Sunday, again with the fabulous Paul Marr and will, I am pretty damn certain, get some beautiful shots. I thought I would put a couple of sneaky peeks on of some detail shots of a couple of dresses with more to follow once the shoot is all done and dusted. As usual there are dresses and patterns and colour galore, especially with the fabulous vintage fabrics i was so lucky to gain from Mrs Tutton whose gorgeous vintage gowns are now in full resplendency in Godiva waiting to be snapped up by some lucky fashionista.

I started doing the visual merchandising for the fabulous shoe boutique - Pam Jenkins - early this year. I now do the odd day working for Pam in the shop which allows me to indulge my love of shoes, shoes, shoes and especially ones that there is no hope of me owning. For my window displays I have complete creative freedom but all have to be done within a limited budget. I thought I would share with you some of the displays I have done so far.

Noir Fashion Show

The fabulous and fashionable were out in force last night at the Noir fashion show held in The Green Room (The old ego) on Picardy place. Organised by Jonathon Freemantle the show was aiming to highlight the diverse and interesting fashion that was available in Edinburgh and indeed it did exactly that. I was showing some new and old collection pieces with Godiva, Totty Rocks were showing their new collection and other independent boutiques clad their models in gorgeous autumn/winter pieces. We had the gorgeous Diana from Colours Agency modelling in some super high heels that even I wouldn't dare to attempt walking in. She looked fabulous in all 6 outfits and I was extremely excited to see my new pieces in action and incredibly happy with the positive response from the Noir crowd. It was a fabulous night in a gorgeous venue, hopefully the first of many.

My made to measure range has been up and running for 6 months now and I have been thoroughly enjoying making some gorgeous (if i do say so myself) creations for all sorts of ladies and events. Lesley was looking for a grecian style dress for her school leavers ball and the full length Kat dress with some detailing on the bodice was exactly what she was looking for. Lesley chose one of my favourite colours, a beautiful teal with a gold highlight waistband for the dress and it all came together beautifully for a fabulously unique ballgown. Yurika needed an alternative dress for her wedding day and as soon as she saw my Anna dress that was the one. Made in a lovely cream and gold brocade with a cheeky sequin detail on the top, I think this makes for a perfect wedding dress.
